Everyone has a "thing"... or many "things." And as my friends know, my thing is bananas. Typing this out feels somewhat like a weird confession.
My favourite thing to make? Banana bread. My favourite sandwich? PB banana. What's your favourite banana recipe? Do share~
To be honest, I'm not sure when this really developed. Growing up, I disliked bananas as my mum told me they made you gassy. It was just another ordinary fruit—peaches and mangoes on the other hand made me excited. I guess as years passed, they kind of grew on me. I'm not sure if it's the minions that hijacked my brain or if making banana bread made me really fond of them, but it has become my favourite fruit. You're probably thinking, Jen are you really writing an entire blog about bananas? The answer is yes. I've been home for a few days since my holiday in Iceland and I had some time to think, okay?
In all seriousness, I'd like to tie my "thing" with bananas to Chiquita's branding. Yellow was my first favourite colour back in kindergarten. It's bright, bold, and most importantly denoted happiness. I was a giggler, I loved laughing. Then grade three came and blue was the new hot thing (my favourite colour to this day). Put these two together and my mind wanders to Chiquita—always. It feels like childhood, it feels nostalgic. Reminding me of youth, silliness, and a touch of cheekiness. The iconic blue sticker gets me every single time. Like Coca-Cola, Chiquita's branding is classic.
Let's end it off with a cute little video that was featured on itsnicethat by animator and illustrator Julian Frost. The caption he gave this video? Rich in B6 and soluble fibre, bananas are a healthy and hygienic snack choice for all age groups. I second that, Julian.
